"This pessary ring fits perfectly and stays in place without me knowing it's there. Highly recommend."
"This pessary ring is much softer and bendable than my old one. Much easier to insert!"
Common questions, answered.
Do I need a prescription to order?
A pessary is a Class II medical device. Many states permit over-the-counter purchase for personal patient use, but we strongly recommend that initial sizing and fitting be performed by a qualified gynecologist or urogynecologist.
How do I know which size to order?
Pessary fitting is typically performed by a clinician using a fitting kit. If your provider has recommended a specific size, order that size. Our 2-size combo, 3-size right-size, and 7-size clinical kits are designed for fitting trials.
Are these FDA-cleared?
Yes. SciMed silicone ring pessaries are FDA 510(k) cleared as Class II medical devices under FDA Product Code HHN, regulated under 21 CFR 884.5350.
How much is shipping?
Free US shipping on every order. No minimum, no exclusions. Orders before 2 PM PT ship same business day via tracked USPS or UPS in plain, unmarked packaging. International shipping is available; rates calculated at checkout.
What is the return and exchange policy?
Unopened, unused pessaries (single or kit) in their original sealed packaging are returnable within 30 days of delivery. Opened or used pessaries are non-returnable for hygiene and safety reasons (per FDA guidance for personal medical devices).
How long does a pessary last?
With proper care, a medical-grade silicone ring pessary typically lasts 1–2 years of regular use.
How is it cleaned and reused?
Clean with warm water and mild, unscented soap. Avoid alcohol, petroleum-based products, or harsh disinfectants. Clinical kits can be steam autoclaved between patients per the included IFU.
Does insurance, HSA, or FSA cover it?
Pessaries fall under HCPCS code A4561 and are commonly HSA/FSA eligible. Multi-size kits are eligible at the per-device unit rate.
Do you ship internationally?
We ship within the United States, US territories, and to most international destinations. International clinic buyers (GCC and MENA), see our DDP procurement page.
How discreet is shipping?
All orders ship in plain, unmarked outer packaging. Shipping labels show "SciMed Store" only — no product names, no medical references.
Ready to order?
Free US shipping on every order. Same-day US dispatch on orders placed before 2 PM PT. Our team is one call or email away with sizing, billing, and clinical questions.

Choose your pessary by condition
Different pelvic floor conditions respond best to specific pessary types. Use this guide to match your symptoms to the right SciMed pessary, or ask your gynecologist for a recommendation.
Cystocele (bladder prolapse)
The bladder bulges into the front vaginal wall, often with stress urinary incontinence (leakage during cough, laugh, exercise).
Best: Ring Pessary With Support — the support membrane stabilizes the bladder neck.
Uterine prolapse
The uterus descends into the vaginal canal. Common after childbirth, hysterectomy, or with weakened pelvic floor.
Best: Ring Pessary Without Support — open-ring design lifts and holds the uterus in place.
Rectocele (rear wall prolapse)
The rectum bulges into the back vaginal wall, often with constipation or incomplete bowel emptying.
Best: Ring Pessary Without Support in larger sizes (5–8). Refer to a urogynecologist for severe cases.
Stress urinary incontinence (no prolapse)
Leakage with physical activity, often without a visible bulge. Common during pregnancy and post-menopause.
Best: Ring Pessary With Support — support membrane compresses the urethra during exertion.
Choose your pessary by prolapse stage
Pelvic organ prolapse is graded Stage 1 (mildest) to Stage 4 (most severe) using the POP-Q system. Pessary therapy is most effective for Stage 1–3. Stage 4 may require surgical referral.
| Stage | What it means | Recommended pessary |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Prolapse stays at least 1 cm above the hymen | Ring Without Support, smaller sizes (1–3) |
| Stage 2 | Prolapse reaches the hymen or extends slightly past it | Ring Without Support or With Support, sizes 3–5 |
| Stage 3 | Prolapse extends >1 cm beyond the hymen | With Support, sizes 5–7. Clinician fitting strongly recommended. |
| Stage 4 | Complete eversion (entire vaginal canal protrudes) | Pessary often insufficient — consult urogynecologist for surgical options or specialty pessary (Gellhorn, cube). |
Not sure of your stage? A gynecology fitting visit measures stage precisely. If you're between two sizes, our 3-size home fitting pack ($119.99) lets you trial three consecutive sizes at home.
Frequently asked questions about ring pessaries
Do I need a prescription to buy a vaginal pessary?
No. In the US, vaginal pessaries are FDA Class II medical devices — not prescription drugs. You can buy a ring pessary online without a prescription. A prescription is only needed if you want insurance reimbursement.
What size pessary do I need?
Sizing is best determined by a gynecologist using a clinical fitting kit. The most commonly fitted sizes are 3–5 (64–76 mm). If you're unsure, see our ring pessary size chart or order a 3-size home fitting pack.
What's the difference between "with support" and "without support"?
The with-support ring has a membrane across the ring for additional bladder neck support — preferred for cystocele or stress urinary incontinence. The without-support open ring is the standard first-line option for prolapse without urinary leakage. Most patients start without support.
How much does a ring pessary cost?
Direct from SciMed: $44.99 (without support) or $49.99 (with support). Pharmacy or clinic markup pushes the same FDA-cleared device to $80–$150. See our 2026 pessary cost guide for full pricing breakdowns.
Can I insert and remove the pessary myself?
Yes — ring pessaries are designed for self-management. Most patients learn the technique during their initial fitting visit. See our step-by-step insertion guide.
How long does a pessary last?
Medical-grade silicone pessaries last 1–2 years with regular care. Replace sooner if you notice discoloration, persistent odor, or material degradation. See our replacement timing guide.
Can I wear a pessary during sex?
Yes — the without-support open-ring design can typically be worn during intercourse without removal. The with-support membrane design must usually be removed before sex.
Is the pessary HSA/FSA eligible?
Yes. Pessaries are IRS-qualified medical expenses under HCPCS code A4561. Pay with your HSA/FSA debit card at checkout, or submit your receipt for reimbursement. Read our HSA/FSA guide.
Does Medicare cover pessaries?
Yes. Medicare Part B covers pessaries as durable medical equipment (HCPCS A4561) when prescribed for documented ICD-10 N81.0–N81.9 (genital prolapse). You pay 20% Part B coinsurance after the annual deductible.
What if I order the wrong size?
Return the unopened, sealed pouch within 30 days for a free size exchange. Same-day re-dispatch on the replacement. If you've opened the pessary and the fit isn't right, email sales@scimedstore.com — we can guide you through a re-fit.
