Frequently Asked Questions

Are SciMed aspheric lenses compatible with Volk / Nikon ophthalmoscopes?

Yes. Our 20D, 28D, 78D, and 90D aspheric lenses are standard clinical diameters compatible with Volk, Nikon, Haag-Streit, Welch Allyn, Heine, and Keeler ophthalmoscopes and slit lamps.

What's the difference between 20D and 78D?

20D is used WITH a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope (BIO) — hand-held, light attached to headband. 78D is used at the slit lamp for high-magnification fundus biomicroscopy. Both are standard clinical tools but serve different exam types.

Which lens does a residency program start with?

Most ophthalmology residencies issue a 20D (for BIO exam) and a 90D (for slit-lamp disc exam). Our combo pack bundles 20D + 78D + 90D at ~$249.99 for a complete starter kit per fellow.

Are the lenses glass or plastic?

Double aspheric glass. Anti-reflection coated for improved image contrast.

Do you offer residency program volume pricing?

Yes. 10% off on 3+ units, 15% off on 5+ units, custom pricing on 10+. Email sales@scimedstore.com with your fellow count.

How are the lenses packaged?
