How to choose
- Routine fundus exam with BIO: 20D is the workhorse — standard adult, highest resolution
- Pediatric / ROP / small pupil: 28D wider field catches more of the retina through a small pupil
- Slit-lamp fundus: 78D for high-magnification macular / optic nerve detail
- Glaucoma clinic / disc exam at slit lamp: 90D widest field
- Full clinic equipping: Combo pack covers all three essentials in one shipment
Why ophthalmology clinics buy from SciMed
- Volk / Nikon-compatible optics at a fraction of the branded cost — same clinical function, better procurement economics
- Wooden safety case included with every lens for storage and transport
- Residency program bundles — equip each fellow at under $300 (combo pack)
- Net-30 institutional accounts for teaching hospitals and academic medical centers
- Direct from manufacturer — no 2-3 distributor layers inflating the price
- International DDP for clinic procurement in GCC, MENA, EU, UK, AU/NZ
Frequently Asked Questions
Are SciMed aspheric lenses compatible with Volk / Nikon ophthalmoscopes?
Yes. Our 20D, 28D, 78D, and 90D aspheric lenses are standard clinical diameters compatible with Volk, Nikon, Haag-Streit, Welch Allyn, Heine, and Keeler ophthalmoscopes and slit lamps.
What's the difference between 20D and 78D?
20D is used WITH a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope (BIO) — hand-held, light attached to headband. 78D is used at the slit lamp for high-magnification fundus biomicroscopy. Both are standard clinical tools but serve different exam types.
Which lens does a residency program start with?
Most ophthalmology residencies issue a 20D (for BIO exam) and a 90D (for slit-lamp disc exam). Our combo pack bundles 20D + 78D + 90D at ~$249.99 for a complete starter kit per fellow.
Are the lenses glass or plastic?
Double aspheric glass. Anti-reflection coated for improved image contrast.
Do you offer residency program volume pricing?
Yes. 10% off on 3+ units, 15% off on 5+ units, custom pricing on 10+. Email sales@scimedstore.com with your fellow count.
How are the lenses packaged?
Each lens ships in a wooden safety case with foam insert. Combo packs ship together in one larger case.
