Medical Review Process
Every clinical statement on SciMed Store is checked against a primary source before it is published. Pages that discuss pessary use, pelvic organ prolapse, fitting, side effects, or reimbursement are written and maintained by the SciMed clinical content team and verified against current ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) guidance, FDA device labeling, and CMS coding policy.
How we check what we publish
We do not publish clinical claims from memory or from competitor marketing copy. Before a page goes live, each factual claim is traced to one of the following:
- ACOG Practice Bulletin No. 214 and current peer-reviewed urogynecology literature, for statements about indications, fitting, contraindications, and side effects.
- FDA databases and device labeling, for regulatory status — 510(k) clearance, Product Code HHN, and 21 CFR 884.5350.
- CMS coding manuals and IRS Section 213(d), for HCPCS coding (A4561), Medicare and Medicaid guidance, and HSA/FSA eligibility.
- Our own manufacturing and QA records, for material composition, dimensional specifications, and sterilisation guidance on products we make.
What this review covers
- Clinical accuracy: statements about pessary fitting, indications, contraindications, and side effects.
- Device information: product specifications and regulatory status, verified against current FDA records.
- Patient safety guidance: care instructions, insertion and removal procedures, red-flag symptoms, and contraindications, reviewed for completeness as well as accuracy.
- Reimbursement information: coding and eligibility guidance, checked against current payer policy.
Editorial standards
Content on SciMed Store is original, written for patients and clinicians, and updated when relevant guidance changes. We cite primary sources wherever a clinical claim is made. Review frequency
- At publication — every new blog post, comparison page, or product information page is checked before going live.
- Annually — existing clinical content is re-checked once per year against current guidance.
- On major guideline updates — when ACOG, the FDA, or CMS publishes new guidance affecting pessary use, prolapse management, or device labeling, affected pages are re-checked within 60 days.
What we don't do
